In case you missed it, anyone going for or renewing a commercial endorsement, will need to have done a "Professional Practices and Responsibilities Course" from April 2012.

I went to one of their instructor briefings earlier this year and it was discussed.

Given the responsibility of having a commercial endorsement this course seems entirely appropriate and not before time.

What is the course content & how much are the RYA charging (its available initially on their interactive website)?

Amazing...

All these courses and concerns about other people, yet anyone (couple actually - that's a pedant prevention precaution) can parent children and raise them without having to attend a course (ok, maybe the pre- and post-natal classes, but even they are not compulsory AFAIR). Ok, lounge territory I know...

Well at £30 I`m looking forward to doing it out of interest. Commercial sailors with STCW`95 have to do PSSR, which is a one day course, on personal safety and social responsibilities (over £100 now- for a day in the classroom). I completely disagree that it is all "common sense",that attitude is where problems arise from in my view. In fact I don`t see how they could cover it all for £30-odd,looks good value to me.
Hopefully an RYA type could post some sample questions out of an assessment paper to give an idea? Cheers Jerry.
And by the way,a Q to RYA: If I already have STCW`95 PSSR,I presume that would cover it?

Really? How about looking for the reason for such training - such as this thread

+1

I do hope that the course will be robust enough to identify the facts and requirements to work commercially. There is a risk that the course will be too generic with regards, say, UK legislative requirements; it's a start.

I worked for 5 years commercially without a contract, straight out of college and was completely naive on these matters.
