I have just fitted a new Ruttland 914 which has been in storage for 12 months. The plastic nacelle has a number of cracks radiating from the fixing screw holes. Marlec have not seen this problem before. I was thinking of using epoxy and glass cloth to effect a repair from the inside but am not sure about this. Advice from Marlec is to just leave it but the printed circuit board under the nacelle lookes very expose if it were to get wet. Just wondering if any others have heard of this problem or the best solution.

Many suppliers might raise an eyebrow if you sent back a part that was 12 months old, although Marlec do have good customer service and may recognise that the cone has not been previously been fitted (or used). Alternatively, I'm sure Marlec could supply you with a replacement nosecone - the nosecone for the 913 is about £28.

The devices spin pretty quickly so you would need to ensure that, should you decide to repair it, it won't affect the balance of the generator.

Judging from my own excellent service from Marlec, I'm surprised that they haven't already sent you a replacement.

I would be questioning why the holes have cracks. Normally due to thermal expansion - holes not big enough for the screws or the screws have been overtightened.

Regards
Donald

After looking at the photo's Marlec have replaced the Nacelle with free postage. They were a great company to deal with and it seems that this is not a common problem. All in a great ending.
