hi thinking about buying a rutland 913 wind generator and regulator to keep batteries topped up and even work 12v products tv/radio etc..
has any one got one and if so are they worth the money?
are they easy to fit?
how much have you paid?
best price i have found is £379.00 for gen and £125.00 for regulator inc vat and delivery in the uk. company is www.JGTech.com)

thanks marc.

Came out well in group test report (in PBO I think) a couple of months ago.
By the way it is not considered good form to put the same post on more than one forum. Usually the PBO forum is best for technical queries.

I've been thinking about one of these too, and would've said the same as Norman, but more interesting though, is the 2nd point... I've been wondering about the difference between the 2 fora (?).

I fitted a 24v version five years ago (SeaTeach £359). I have had a couple of problems - one very early in the burn in period - no output, then one about twenty months later - winding burnt out and regulator u/s. The Gen was replaced under warranty as I had had a previous problem, but I had to buy a new reg (they let me have it at cost price).
The new regulator is much better than than the old one as it controls the gen revs in high winds as well as shunting excess current.
I wanted to mount the gen on the mizzen mast but Rutland don't do a L bracket. I got around the problem by using a Pacific 100 Mizzen bracket (v good design) and had it drilled out to take the Rutland stub pole.

thanks jim the pilot i agree that is why i posted on other forums as the topic was wind generators not sailing, or powerboats
i think politically correctness is going mad here too as well in the rest of the world. does it really matter. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Big thanks to all comments on the intended post just sent my order, keep the freedom of speech on the forum.
thanks again.
regards
marc
p.s should i post this reply on all the forums /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I bought the very same this time last year from JG for the same price as you quoted.

I fitted mine on a gantry - the hardest part was feeding the wire through the S/S tubes - using nylon elecrical mouse and washing up liquid solved that problem.

I have the digital regulator which seem to work very well indeed . The set up I have charges one battery for starting and 2 aux. It also supports solar panels - thats another project.

Very pleased with it so far as I have added confidence in my power being available when I want it. All batteries are ready for use when I arrive at the boat.

I'm also a lot happier leaving lights on and generally running electrical devices for long periods without using the engine.

This is also the first winter I have left my batteries on the boat and all seems hunky dory.

Remember the unit must be left running at all times, otherwise it is suggested you remove it completely. Certainly noise levels are low and it doesn't ruin my relaxing in the cockpit on a sunny day !
