Rutland 913 reluctant to spin

Curiouser and curiouser, good breeze blowing today and the gene was struggling to make 1rpm. Decided it would have to be investigated after lunch which was rudly interrupted by a whirr cum buzz noise...looked up and the gene is wizzing away quite merrily! Lots of free amps, well about 0.5, and enough noise to keep a whole marina awake at night. So all 'appears' to be ok, I'm guessing the bearings were a tad on the tight side and have eased (hope it doesn't mean they will carry on easing until knackered though) so I'm a happy bunny albeit with earplugs....so how do I quieten it down?
 
If they are rumbling then they need replacing - its usually the inner bearing that goes first. Reasonably straight forward job to replace them. As a previous poster said if you can't pull the bearing it can be cut with a dremel.

The generator will only produce amps once the voltage produced exceeds that in the battery. Assuming your is a 12v system then a manual spin will produce around 5v.

For info I'm very pleased with my 913 - keeps the batts topped up when away. Produces on average 1 amp per hour according to the Regulator Log when on board using the batteries. This is an average over a period of time so there are times in a good blow when it produces considerably more which can just about support my basic domestics.
 
This is an interesting thread to me; a while ago I bought a vertical axis wind charger ( forget the name right now ) and was amazed how stiff and heavy it was to turn, would take a gale to move it at all, couldn't understand why others I see are spinning away.

Luckily Seateach did take it back unused and swap it for a solar panel, I did wonder about stiff bearings or if the ones I see spinning are totally shot !
