I'm currently repairing my ply epoxy dinghy and taking the opportunity to tart up a few bits that have been annoying me.
On both the self bailers and the pad-eyes I use as lifting points, there have been persistent rust weeps from the supposedly stainless steel. It looks pretty bad against the white paint.
On the bailers I suspect I used poor quality nuts, so that's easily solved. But the pad eyes seem to be discolouring on the fittings themselves, in particular from a weld on the eye.
I'm wondering if there's anything I can do, short of replacing the eyes with Wichard ones which I don't want to do (different bolt spacing, need new backing plates, expense, time). Polish the weld? Try to isolate the pieces of steel with rubber or plastic?
I've got a tin of Duralac... would that help at all??
