For once the engine does not leak any oil! Which means a rusty sump. Have scraped it and put the acid on. After painting any suggestions please? Will waxoyl hang on it, or is a sump too hot? Never thought I would want back an oily bilge. Nic

Acid! I suspect that you mean an etch primer. I hauled my engine out a couple of years ago. Stripped the paint and then used an engine laquer on it. Had to pull it pout the other day. No rust as yet. The waxoyl will probably not stick too well with the heat as you say. You could try Duck oil though, seems to work for me. Will need a spray of it a couple of times a year.

What engines are they?

Years ago I had a Mercruiser petrol engine with a rusty sump = I removed the sump, put a good thickness of fiberglass all over the outside and painted it.
That solved the problem

this came up before, remeber someone else having the same problem. The advice to me at the time I re-engined to an AD31P was to keep a watch on the sump as they were prone to it for some reason.

As it gets hot what about a more heat resiliant paint ??
