Russian Yacht \"Flora\" - Conrad 45 - Info?

Many years ago (1982) I had the pleasure of sailing on this charismatic yacht from Lisbon to Vigo, and despite Russian canned Pork in Grease and tea with rancid butter in it enjoyed the experience immensely.

Flora is (was) a 45' ish ketch with a beautiful varnished wood hull (carvel or moulded, it was a long time ago) and was built in Poland to a design that I recall as "Conrad" or "Konrad", and owned by the leningrad Yacht Club, and I believe one of, if not the only conventional yacht in the Soviet Union at the time. The Skipper only ran the boat, tha Commissar was in charge!

Is she still around? Any info?

Re: Russian Yacht \"Flora\" - Conrad 45 - Info?

Hi, I don't know about Flora, but there were quite a few Conrad designs of various lengths floating round (;)) the former Soviet Union. For example there's at least one, in fact I think two, based in Riga at the moment. I've forgotten their names (not Flora), I think the larger one is about 65'.

Conrad was the best known of the huge old shipyards in Gdansk (and therefore intimately connected with Solidarity, the fall of communism etc.). They, or a sub-division of them, did some yacht building on the side. I think they went bankrupt about 10 years ago, but there is now a new company based in Gdansk which specialises in superyachts that is called Conrad.

Sorry, doesn't answer your question, just general background information.
