The slick, measuring 4.5km by 5km, contains around 1,000 tonnes of oil. It was released into the sea on Saturday, 50 miles south of Fastnet, when refuelling operations between the aircraft carrier Admiral Luznetsov and a tanker went awry.

Now correct me here but lets say the connection failed? how long does it take to turn a stop cock (granted a big one) off?
They reckon 1,000 tonns !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

WE used to reckon (thumb rule) for high pressure lines an inch per second by electric actuator or an inch per minute by hand.
