Thought this might be of interest to others:
I shopped around a lot on the net and found these people:

- really helpful. The chap I spoke to recommended swaged terminals to the mast, if appropriate and using Sta-Lock or Norseman for the connection to the chain-plates. The price of their wire is very good and is 316. I am having mine done with them they fit the swaging/whatever, for the mast, I do the Stalock bit. Apparently: Chay Blyth's 14 identical 67ft yachts raced round the world with Sta-Lok rigging hardware.
Good enough recommendation I think. Best of luck, let us know how you get on Steve.

It is true that most riggers include the swaging charge in the price of their turnbuckles, but it is hard to find one who will exceed the cost of the swageless fittings.
Of course you can, if you have the thimbles, re-make them but it's not always possible.

The cost of replacement standing rigging is so small that I can see little point in risking a gravity storm by an inherently fallible DIY system.

PS Which self-respecting rigger uses 304? Galvanised MS yes, but 304 stainless, surely not.

PSS One occasion I've found Stalock economical was using their insulator fittings on the backstay for an SSB aerial (and then they were £80 each).
