Having taken the decision to get some thing bigger for use as a tender, we need to moor it off the quay wall.

Has anybody any diagrams for a running moorings. The principle is simple but are there any things to be avoided.

TIA

No diagrams but one thing to make sure of is that your two lines don't run alongside each other as they will tangle. When I lay a temporary one on holiday I use and heavy lump, a riser to the buoy, a single block at the buoy and two blocks on shore about 8' apart. The mooring line forms a big triangle and there is a bight formed where the line is joined. This is what I tie the painter to. You can then draw on one side of the triangle or the other depending whether you are retrieving the dinghy or putting it back out. The further out you have to deploy your bouy the wider apart the two on shore blocks need to be but 8' seems to work OK even though the buoy is 100' out. I use Polyprop but I think a non floating material would be better so there is less tendency for the mooring lines to snag on the dinghy as she swings

I'm sure this is not the best way but it works for me and I can set it up and retrieve the whole shooting match without too much effort.
