In a green pre budget speach it is rumoured that chancellor gordon brown is ready to announce plans to slash vat on greener forms of transport.it is expected that he will announce a reduction in vat charged on wind powered yachts in favour of higher taxes on private aeroplanes and motor boats.
A spokesman for the marine federation is reported as saying that this welcome change will reduce the cost of the average familly cruiser by up to &2000 and provide a boost to the marine industry. The spokesman suggests that yachts build of renewable materials and using for example cotton or canvass sailed might even receive a government subsidy.
American comment on the proposals opposed any such move in favour of increased subsidy to motor yachts saying that any effect on global warning was not proven and anyway global warning was not happening

I think he's forgotten to say that buried in the small print is a clause stating that any yacht fitted with any form of mechanical proplusion would be exempt from reduced taxes

G Brown reduce the tax on anything - pigs flying - cows & coming home - hell and freezing all spring to mind.

Peter.

Will he pay for it by removing red diesel for pleasure boats? (or will he just remove red diesel anyway?) /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Not be too dismissive! After all, by the time anything happens on this he'll be the Prime Minister and it'll be slightly out of his hands. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
