Having (none of use drink en voyage, right?) completed a days sailing/motoring, I enjoy one or more Mount Gay Extra Old on the rocks* with a squeeze of lime.

What is your favourite rum or tipple?

* The "rocks" being in my glass and not where the boat is located.

Snow leopard, You have a very good 'fruit' punch there.
The amended version of the traditional method of rum punch
1 measure of bitter(lime juice),
2 measures of sweet (sugar),
3 measures of strong (rum), and
4 measures of weak (ice or water)

is best revised to

1 measure of bitter (fresh lime juice - no seeds),
2 measures of sweet (sugar disolved in [as little as possible] warm water),
3 measures of strong (rum good 'gold' caribbean rum NOT that stuff called "Barcardi"), and
LEAVE out the weak.
Just add ice when serving, it will melt and dilute it enough!!!!!!

Boringly enough rum and coke is my tipple although I'll try some of the punch recipes! No preference as to which brand but one to avoid is "Screech" rum from Newfoundland. Bit of a traditional thing - they used to trade salt cod to the carribean and rum back - but v nasty. Called "screech" cos thats the sound you make when you drink it!!

Neat - As the good god has said, if he had meant for rum to have anything in it he would have made it that way. Plebians all you are.

Mojito

Toss a few leaves of mint with a lime in parts in a glass. Ad unrefined sugar, the coarser the better. Crunch this mixture. Ad Rum (Havana Club) and sugar sirop. Crushed ice and top off with sparkling water.

Another rum punch recipe, that I really enjoy...

2 measures grapefruit juice
3 measures orange juice
3 measures rum
4 measures pineapple juice
... and a dash of Grenadine.

Deceptively alcoholic!

which Rum ?

rum punch is designed to be made with the golden caribbean rum, mount gay being the best known over here, but how about a few of the others...

honey rum from the canaries, great with some lime juice and soda

rhum agricole, a white rum from the french islands, the basis of planteur and 'ti ponche

goslings from bermuda, essential for the authentic flavour of dark & stormy (but beware the 151 proof version)

pusser's in a mug of cocoa after a cold night watch

Cockspur from Barbados. Best consumed (like all rum), whilst watching the Caribbean sun go down.

Cockspur used to sponsor a steel band, and this could cause occasional confusion if you had sampled enough of the product, as the drums were covered in the Cockspur logo. It was not unknown for spectators who had, um, taken significant refreshment on board, to try and pick up a drum to drink the contents. Not me, yer honour........./forums/images/icons/crazy.gif

There's nothing like OVD mixed 50/50 with Crabbies Green Ginger. Superb!

Woods is the nearest I've tasted to pussers.

4 bells isn't too bad either

Lets face it, NONE of them are bad!

OH COME ON GUYS!!!

You need to get aquainted with Sunset. The premier St.Vincent "Very strong rum". Best taken in a rum punch. To be really "Local" you need a pity of rum and about ½ a litre of very cold water. A cart to get you home is a good idea too if you try it...lol.

84.5%Alc./Vol. Its also cheaper tha BBQ lighter fuel and works just as well.

MG Extra Old, just perfect on it's own.

SWMBO has decided that it's her drink now so I'm relegated to the bog standard Eclipse!

Cheapest beer possible when spray coming over deck ...... salt water in good beer seems a crime !
Guinness when tied up and winding down
Nice drop of Chardonnay or Merlot when relaxed
Stiff G+T to get relaxed
Ice cold Vodka when the party gets going ....

When I want something cool and long to enjoy ...... then I mix Luther Pino Colada :

Large chunk of Vanilla Ice Cream
Reasonable slug of pineapple juice
Large slug of white rum
Measure to taste of Coconut milk
Crushed ice

Mix all and if possible blend ..... pour into long tall glasses .......

OK ?
