I have a wired windlass hand control unit that plugs into a plastic socket on the deck. In short, the socket is gubbed. I’ve kept it limping on for the last three seasons by spraying contact cleaner in it, reaming it out and applying Vaseline. I now need to let it go!

However I can’t find a decent replacement one that isn’t chrome plated brass with threaded cap etc. Any pointers for a 3 pin replacement that isn’t going to cost the same as a complete Lofrans Galaxy 102 handset? If not, I’ll bite the bullet and buy the handset.

I’d like it to have a push-fit cap and be reasonably chunky. Like me ;-)

Cheers.

ETA - no pics available to hand. Soz.

A small +1 for Driplugs. wI have several on my boat .... If you use then put a smear of silicone grease on the O ring or they can be quite difficult to plug in / unplug

But the link given says out of stock. They appear to be NLA

I think If I was rewiring/ replacing the Driplugs I would be looking towards the Bulgin Buccaneer range.

The two pin was out of stock but I need a three pin, so all good. I bought one.

But thanks for the tip about the Bulgin ones.

Bulgin Buccaneer range are excellent, and available in anything up to at least 8 pins. Both plugs and sockets are available as cable mount or fixed mount. RS supply them, but there are probably cheaper sources.

Yep, but...

1. It adds more electronics - and therefore more to go wrong.
2. IME windlass switches remote from the windlass are really dangerous. A friend once nearly got my hand when flicking cockpit switches while bored as I faffed about with the chain in readiness for anchoring. I cut them out of the circuit there and then.

Most likely as cheap to bin the plug and socket and install one of these which can be used from the cockpit as well - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wireless-R...=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B01ER5BK52

For that price you could have both wired and remote, remote can be really handy sometimes even if it spends most of its life turned off.

I have foot switches (still working fine after 15 years) as backup for the remote and always have the CB off until ready to use windlass, to avoid any accidents.
