It's at times like these (I was around in the 1970's as well) when I resort to the fact that my paternal great grandfather came from Llansannan and that my maternal great grandfather came form Creich (Sutherland). To hedge my bets completely I have another ancestor somewhere that came from Ireland.
Sad isn't it?

As a former Hong Konger

I can recall the first time Wales showed up (the Home Unions used to sneer at the HK Sevens). They kicked for touch, and were actually booed.

My money is on Fiji, as usual. Until you have seen the Fijians playing in Hong Kong, you have not seen rugby at its finest. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Me too. Managed to be in HK for the sevens last year. Friday and Saturday in the South stand then wimped out and joined the slightly more respectable crowd on Sunday.

I haven't managed to get to see it in HK, but the IRB 7's is a great series of tournaments. I've been to Twickenham for 2 of the last 3 years and the final day is a terrific festival of rugby and a great day out. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who is remotely interested.

I sense a man in denial. By the way - are you sure you'll beat Scotland?

Beat Scotland? We own Scotland! Its been absorbed into the Greater England known as the UK.

But we probably wont beat the rugby team. Humfff

as predicted...

No coverage here to speak of - also as predicted!

Not so Andrew!!

ITV2 had EXCELLENT coverage on all 3 days! The final was a superb match, and the Fiji were deserved winners. Still think that England were very unlucky to go out to them in the semi's!

Re: Fiji: 29 New Zealand: 19

I find it a strange game and nowhere near as interesting as "proper" rugby. It is too one dimensional, in that scrums don't seem to be particularly contested and once a break has been made it is almost always followed by a try. This is because there is so much open space on the pitch. Would be very interesting to see what the game would be like with 10-12 players - perhaps be the best of both worlds.

The only time I've ever found 7's entertaining was watching the Aberavon pub 7's. A 6'4" bloke with a huge beer gut was trundling slowly towards the line after a 40 yard break, being tracked by a scrawny 5'5" winger who was very careful not to catch him up. Fat bloke keels over exhausted 2 yards from the line and scrawny bloke steps very gingerly over him, picks up the ball and hares up the other end to score. V.funny. Otherwise I think 7's is a bit like rugby league - you can see the skill, but you can't see the point.
