I stepped onto the Nordhaven 390 a sort of slightly potential customer (I could only afford a second hand one) We were greeted by a person who never said hello but (nearly shouting)
<font color=red>Salespeople</font color=red> <font color=blue>me[/me]
<font color=red>"This is the best flybridge boat we have ever tested" pointing at the line on a MBY/M report."</font color=red>
<font color=blue>"Ha Ha, I joked, no actually my boat is the best flybridge boat ever"</font color=blue>
<font color=red>"No it isnt" (did he know I didn't own a Squaddie 74?)</font color=red>
<font color=blue>"Ha Ha, again"</font color=blue>
<font color=red>"Who tested your boat?"</font color=red>
<font color=blue>"Erm, I don't know"</font color=blue>
<font color=red>"Well then, this is better!"</font color=red>
<font color=black>A little put back, I motioned No1 to lead the journey inside and get out of this never ending conversation.
After looking round for a few minutes and seeing some things we didn't like we wandered back into the cockpit where were met by a different person who asked us what we thought of it.</font color=black>
<font color=blue>"Well, its ok although I think you have tried to cram to much in and I don't really like the galley in the saloon"</font color=blue>
<font color=red>"No we haven't. This is the best flybridge boat"</font color=red>
<font color=black>(here we go again) So we have a look at the flybridge for a couple of minutes before returning to have another look inside. Here I meet the original salesperson who tells me to</font color=black>
<font color=red>"Get out of the way!!"</font color=red> as he lead some people down to the cabins
(muttering) <font color=blue>"Please would have been nice"</font color=blue>
<font color=black>No1 now goes into 'hyper critical' mode and starts pointing out everything that he can see is imperfect!,,,,,,,oh no!
Walking into the cockpit we were spoken to again</font color=black>
<font color=red>"Get off the boat"</font color=red>
<font color=blue>"Happily, if you are going to speak to me like this"</font color=blue>

<font color=black>So rather stunned by this (the first boat we went on) we wandered off.
How do they expect to sell the boat? I would not even consider buying it anymore purely because of the staff. It was not as if I was looking around a boat that is wildly out of my reach, I was a serious customer and anyway I expect to be spoken to like a human, not a cat. (no comments about being a moose/forums/images/icons/laugh.gif)

Every other boat we went on the staff were helpful, informative and polite. Allthough I do get the feeling that when asking questions about techy stuff at the Simrad and raymarine stands we quite often know more than they do. For example we were asking the price of a Simrad ARPA board for a certain model of radar, we were promptly told it was not available on this model. It took 4 Yes FOUR people to discover that it was despite me standing there saying "look in your brochure, it says there!!"

Best thing was that I managed to get an MMSI number issued in about 5 minutes at the RA stand. Well worth doing if you need one.
Worst thing (beside Mr "Best Flybridge in the world") is that we only got around one hall and will therefore have to go back tomorrow (today)

Overall, it is much better than Earls court and getting there was no problem.
Gatwick-London Bridge-Jubilee line to Canning Town-DLR to Excel. Total cost £11 return.</font color=black>

We met them all,
Actually very seriously in the market for 64 ft Manhattan - told to get off boat so somebody else could have a look (while hwmbo is discussing price, delivery time etc with salesman). Suddenly gone off Sunseekers, wondering what hapens when u get problems.
Very rude staff, this was on opening day.

I too would have loved to look at the Nordwest 390 after reading the reports. That guy was very rude I mean its not as if you went at it like a moose in a china shop/forums/images/icons/smile.gif

If your going back and have time why not say hello to Phil & Neil on our stand N1647.

Happy new year .....Clive

The Nordhaven is only "the best flybridge ever" according to Motor Boat and Yachting magazine - which I am afraid doesn't say much for the boat.....

And why anyone bothers with dreadful Sunseekers anyway when there are lots of much better built boats out there...

<hr width=100% size=1>

let me at em, let me at em.... might drop in then give em one of my cards see what reaction I get, oh it sounds like I could have so much fun /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

I am surprised that you were treated that way at the LIBS. I visited the Princess stand and was treated very well. even though I clearly stated that I was not in the market for a new boat. great stand and excellent customer service. well done Princess!

Go on to PGD site and make a report. Its no good just leaving it here I know loads of people will read this post but it leaves a permanent impression on Nordwest if it goes on the survey.

We found the LAD in the ' buy your door ticket here ' was the first rudest person to come across,, instead of passing the tickets nicely to my wife ,,,, he simply just wiped them though the hatch like a dealer on a big poker table dealing cards.

Second was a chap on a book stool, one of my kids spilt a little coke from his bottle on the floor about 12" away from a stack of books, coke only came out the bottle by some RUDE adult walking past NOT watching where he was walking. TIBMIN .

Shop assist " OI GUYS, watch your drinks, these books are not cheap ". resulting in my little lady crying .

Me says to shop assist " ERMMMMMMMM Not got kids have ya ?,,, and if my lad was allowed to go and walk on and have a look at some boats worth £ 000's, Whats ya problem over a £ 20 book . "

Shop assist " But Sir "

me " Fu$$ OFF "

How about everyone going on to the Nordhaven stand, wait until you are approached by a sale person, spark up a bit of conversation about the boat. When the sales persons ask if you woud like a look on board, say "no thanks, I read on the YBW forum about how rude your staff are and would rather not be subjected to being told to get out of the way, then chucked off your boat, even if I am going to buy it."/forums/images/icons/frown.gif

I am going tomorrow and will definitely be doing the above, B^%$stards!

Lets club together and make our point!

I wonder how the boat show sales people qualify there potential customers. Or do they? they must scare a lot off being so rude.

<hr width=100% size=1>

You must be joking, if a salesman spoke to me like that and I was buying one I would take my receipt of the Princess I brought instead of their boat to the MD of the business with the salesmans name and explain exactly why I now own a princess and not one of his stinking boats.

Do you have the salesmans name, post it up on the web, that way if the MD ever does read this post he can deal with it. Or maybe it was the director telling you to get off, in which case there is no hope. /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

I wish, I think I will stick with my Sealine for now.

I do sometimes feel tempted to pretend to be a lottery winner so I am taken seriously when having a look round, but from the sounds of it, even genuine potential customers get thrown off boats. Amazing, are these guys not commission based?

Maybe I should suit up. Is it a clothing issue?

Suit, brief case handcuffed to my arm with two body guards, maybe then they will not throw me off the boat.

Is it Nordhaven or Nordhavn? Also is a Nord West 390 a different boat to a Nordhaven or Nordhavn? I am confused???

The moral of this sorry story could be: don't buy a boat in the UK. You will get a much better deal in southern Europe and there are some very competitive prices to be found in the Netherlands. UK boat dealers tend to be pretty good at charging too much. Maybe because Brit boaters are too easily sucked into the so-called "dream" of owning a boat and therefore are prepared to pay through the nose. And what about America? With the pound so strong against the dollar and very reasonable shipping rates from the US to UK, get a cheap flight to Florida and buy a barely used boat over there. I would never buy a boat from a UK dealer - still people, silly prices...

<hr width=100% size=1>

Are these people out of their mind?

One good boat report doesn't mean that they will sell loads and they are very new to the UK with lots of competition. I have experienced this before and OK sometimes I might look a bit stuffy but I probadly earn more in a month than a boat salesman does in a year.

<hr width=100% size=1>

BTW, Moose, I like your boat!
Re LBS, you are lucky/forums/images/icons/smile.gif a boat dealer even spoke to you.
I find over here that it's only the Italians who actually attempt to qualify you; the rest don't even ask a question. It seems to me that people BUY boats, 'cos there's little attempt made to SELL them. I don't think most boat sales people have ever had any sales training vs product training and the latter is not very good.

<hr width=100% size=1>

Own up,,,come on!

Who was it that went and gave the guy some serious abuse then?

I went back to the boat to have another look round this evening and he was charming even offering me a sea trial on it and everything!
