Coming back in under engine on Saturday, I was suddenly aware of a very noticable shudder / vibration coming through the rudder (transom hung on a long keel - like a Folkboat). This persisted until I was on my berth. Before having her hauled-out this morning to see what was wrong, I thought I'd just start-up and make some further observations. Just as well...the problem has completely disappeared! Drove around Cardiff Bay for a half hour at full throttle, with all sorts of manoeuvres...still OK. So what caused this? My thoughts are a) weed or something around the prop causing turbulence in the small aperture between the prop and rudder (but didn't notice any loss of power) or b) the stern tube empty of grease allowing some "wobble" of the propshaft (I do have a stern tube greaser as well as one for the stuffing box). Any thoughts from others who might have experienced something similar?
