Hi

My stainless steel with rubber insert rubbing strip has popped out on the port side where it curves towards the bow. (Photo below, if I can figure how to insert it).

I think this is causing a small leak in the cabin.

Are there any ideas how I should repair this? (Including how to remove/replace the rubber strip)

Also, sealing the bottom edge of the strip there is a sealant. Would this be caulk or an adhesive sealant or marine silicone?

Any ideas please?

Thanks for your reply. No, it's the whole strip including the S/S carrier with screws thats popped out by an inch or so over a length of 5' or so.

Still unable to post a photo, (don't have permission to post attachments).

Thanks

Early P40 stainless steel rubbing strake secured with rivets white sealant below rubbing strake is Rally Bondite. put sikaflex sealant on rivets

Thanks all for the replies.

AFAIK, this area of strip has not collided or been hit but who knows what happens when the boat's unattended.

Stelican - you are spot on. I've removed the rubber strip this morning over the affected length and found black sealant under (Sikaflex?), covering rivet heads which I removed a couple of. It appears that they are aluminium pop rivets which was surprising - I would have expected S/S rivets. Also the shafts were perfectly parallel, not bulging where they clamped up against something so there wasn't much stopping them popping out.

This raises further questions -
What does the rivet fasten into - is there a steel strip embedded in the grp?
Should I bed the strip down with adhesive sealant or what?
Would you refit with rivets or A4 screws?

Thanks again.

The glue is white polyurethane. For last several years fairline have used Aplha 132 but 3m 4200 will be fine as will sika 291. You need to bed the ss strip onto this and also fill the gap/slot underneath with it. The rubber just pushes into the ss groove and some hand soap liquid makes it easier.
