Rubbing strake scar joint repair?

Very common Westerly problem. Scarf is too short and at a high stress point. It is possible to clean the faces, glue with thickened epoxy and then put a long screw with a penny washer through to hold the scarf together while it cures. Remove the screw when set and put a long 9 mm dowel in set in epoxy and plug with a normal cross grain plug. Did a Centaur like this many years ago. One side held and still holds, but the other, constantly exposed to the sun as the boat is moored east west failed after a couple of years, I think because of the changes in temperature exposed to the sun putting stress on the joint.

Definitely better than taking it off!

Best to use a resourcinol such as Cascophen as epoxy affected by sunlight.

Agreed. That's what we used on our Fulmar after my 'permanent' scarf repair using epoxy failed after circa three years in the Med. sun. Touch wood, the resourcinol glue that replaced it has lasted for over five years so far. Am keeping fingers crossed!!
