took the boat out last sunday for a couple of hours in the sunshine!!
the engine died just as I was approaching the pontoon and as I steered her off I caught the works tender tied up to the pontoon. I now have a 2 feet streak of rubber from the works boat straking down one side of my hull. Any suggestions on removal of rubber without damaging the gelcoat. Thanks in anticipation.

I thought you were going to be asking about rubber rubbing strakes...

I'd try something like white spirit to start with, leaving abrasive - or oxalic acid jobs - as a last resort as they will probably leave uneven patches where the U/V has not been there.

Try what ever domestic cleaners suitable for plastic baths that SWMBO has.

Ordinary Cif will get black marks off but it is slightly abrasive.

I doubt if oxalic acid will be any good but you never know it seems to shift most things

Cleaning hull

I like acetone as the stuff to clean rubber off a hull. Mine gets a lot of marks on the hull sides. It is a trailer sailer with a 2.5 metre beam. Exactly the max for normal towing on road. So the hull is the rubbing strake. Yes I do need to clean it and even repair scratches and repaint with 2 pack but it does work out well with all that beam on a 21fter. good luck olewill

Solvents

Any of the organic solvents suggested: white spirit, acetone or petrol, will do the job in conjunction with a little elbow grease. Give your hands a good dose of SWMBO's hand cream, or better still a barrier cream, first to minimise skin damage,

These solvents will also remove any wax you may have applied to the area in question, so you may need to re apply.
