Old Fireman's hose is apparently the best stuff to use but where do you get it from or is there a good alternative? I suppose you have to feed the chain through and stitch it on or use plastic ties

I've got a chrome sampson post  so I should protect it somehow! Much prefer boats you don't need to worry about destroying fittings, chuck the chain on deck and loop it over, job done is more my way...

I used the heavy duty stuff with reinforcement in so it was quite stiff, like the stuff you use on your toilet... That way I believe it stopped the buoy chafing against the hull so easily.

Although apparently some say that the hose makes the chain corrode quicker... The last one I had lasted 5 years long enough for me.

I could do the whole harbour HiAndDri, are you off yet by the way

Pete, I wonder if it is chrome, something blimmen shiny, can't believe they would use chrome, the fittings wouldn't last 5 minutes in salt water surely once chipped off...I've never seen SS come up that shiny but perhaps it is

The tough layflat firehose stuff is 'lifed' and must be replaced fairly frequently. It is usually cut up into lengths to prevent its re-use for its original purpose. Depending on what length and width you want, I could probably help. I have lots stowed away 'in case it comes in handy one day'.....

Gael Force sell it per metre (PVC Reinforced Layflat Hose) , as part of the mooring systems, but it's not on the website, you'd need to give us a shout, or drop me a p/m...

Mine came from the local fire station. The stuff they use for big fires is 4 inch, I think, but they also use 2.5 inch for damping down and smaller fires. This is more flexible and convenient for sheathing chain risers.
