Rubber Fendering problem

My boat fendering will leave black on your hands and clothing if you touch it. Anyone got any ideas of what to use to coat it with to stop this, rather than have a major task of replacement as it is in good condition. It has been suggested in past to varnish it but this will have limited life, anyone know of another option.

I'd think it's probably time to renew it but what about trying something like tyre paint [Halfords?] or they also sell a rubber lubricant in aerosols that might help. Varnish will be no use because it will crack up and flake off.

You could try cleaning it with acetone, and then polish with a automotive polish, worked on our fenders.

Umm painting it or acetone and polish got to be worth another try, maybe a few test areas first. Thanks
