i see this morning that mike golding is within 2m of the lead in the vendee and ellen is almost 5 days up on joyon (and about to pass the 6th place vendee boat)

doesn't it make you feel guilty about sitting in a comfortable office?

Re: feeling guilty

erm no, it doesn't really make me feel guilty!

But i am interested that you feel you oughta be there. Which of the ventures does your sense of duty make you feel that you should be tackling? The godawful trip for outright rtw speed record in a multihull - or the slighly slower and hence even more godawful trip in a mono?

Re: feeling guilty

I think we know Snowleopard is a multi hull fan so I'm sure he's rooting for Ellen.

Looks like she's going to smash the record by at least 5 days the way she's going.

Mike Golding has been sailing a peach of a race for the last month. At one point down 600 miles now right up the leaders ar*e.

Looks like the Vendee is going to be a very close finish.

Good luck to them both

I just had a look at the Vendee website and it appears that Golding down to 3rd and 21 miles behind the leader. It'll also be interesting to see whether Ellen can overtake the Vendee leader and arrive back first.

Perhaps they are all planning to come across the finish line side by side

Yes and they will be met by a grinning Cheshire Cat bathing in their glory and claiming full responsibility for their success, just about in time for his announcement about election timing. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Modern education

Yes yes, i think that's what they're planning, so that instead of all this harsh unpleasantness of competiton with winners and losers, they'll sail in nicely with after you and ooh no after you, rather like a modern Sports Day and then help each other with their lines.

Re: Photo Opportunity

Cynical is sending the wife down to the charity shops with £59.50's worth of toys in a bag for the Tsunami appeal, and making sure there was a press photographer and TV cameraman present.

You don't think Ellen and Mike will be on his special 'meet the B.Liars' invite to No 10 or Chequers list then? Provided they win of course.....

Re: Modern education

If I didn't know you better I'd say that that was a jaundiced view and a slur on the efforts of Government to make The British Education System the Finest in the World

Re: Modern education

They would love to be able to present the British Education system as the best in the world. But as an ex-school governor, I know as well as you do that with this amount of gov. interference, this will never happen. I also suffered gov initiatives in the NHS when I was contracted to them. Another unmitigated c##k-up.
I got very political when serving on NHS committees, but when I was doing my psychotherapy degree, and working in a leading psychiatric hospital, I had to see my patients in a cupboard! There wasn't any other space available. Believe me, anything run by Government is totally chaotic. Central control just CAN'T work.
One of the other Governors on our School Board was a civil servant then working in the Cabinet Office, and stories he told you wouldn't believe (daren't tell). This country's doomed I tell you,.................. doomed.
