Oh dear. Looking at the forecast, I think we will be taking several good books, lots of beer, and enough food to ensure we don't need to resort to cannibalism off Ventnor.

So calling all locals and weather gurus, what's the chance of a decent sea breeze? If we eventually get to the pubs in Cowes just as "time at the bar" is called, my crew and I are going to be p155ed. Or not, as the case may be.

Thoughts?

Forecast is for clear skies in the morning, so should generate one. Looks actually pretty similar to Friday, when there was 0 knots at 1300 and 15 at 1430.

Based on the forecast I'm no longer at all upset to be missing it this year.

..... there's a rather optimistic forecast on the RTIR site.

You're right, its very optimistic !
Light NNW-NNE at first, 5-10 knots, becoming a light sea breeze in the afternoon; tending to be SW 8-13 in the western and central Solent, and SE 5-10 in the eastern. Visibility will be moderate or possibly poor at first with some mist patches becoming mainly sunny from about 0700. Maximum temperature 20-22°C.

My guess is there will be an AP for an hour or so.

Having told the whole world that, I am sure you will be setting the burglar alarms, the doberman will be loose in the garden, and your son has got some big ugly mates !
Don't need a dog. Leaving Mike at home! Mind you a burglar would probably do less damage than him and his mates.

If they AP it, it's race over for many boats in the later starts as they won't get round the Needles.

I'm not a local but as far as I understand it the tide will be with the fleet heading to the Needles (until 11ish) so it would make sense to get the boats away and let the tide take them down there, hoping they get round before it turns. Have I got that right?
