Have not actually entered the RTI, but will be going to the start, and intend setting off down towards the needles just after the first start (abt 0605) if the weather gods are smiling I may just turn left at the needles and wander round the island - just so I can take phots and try to stay out of everyone elses way /forums/images/icons/smile.gif.

I could not forecast the opportunity to do the race early enough for a reasonably priced entry, and funds do not permit a late entry, so will I be the only one unofficial, or is this normal and will there be others like me?

Of course, if that big low moves a little faster than expected, I might just change my mind!

I might be going round in my mates Mini Transat boat and we are not official, entry fees too much with out a sponsor. Think quite a few of the Mini guys just turn up on the day.

We did it that way last year. Tried to keep out of peoples way and all went well. Just kept the Duster flying and everyone seemed to understand.

Was agreat day out so this year we are official.

See u out there, if you go slow enough.

With a southerly wind, I should not disgrace myself, I just have a bit of trouble making any real headway against wind and tide, but have pressganged eldest boy to come and gopher and am looking forward to sheltering from the rain in my wheelhouse./forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Just be careful about getting in the racers' way. The serious ones will have no problems in hurling abuse if you sit on their wind or force them to tack etc.

It is a great spectacle and awesome to watch on the water - enjoy.

Thanks, but have done some racing in the past, although to be honest, the close quarters stuff is not something I particularly enjoy. Deliberately putting your floating bank balance in the way of danger has always seemed a tad unseamanlike.
