Royal Navy Fast Motor Boat 5383- engine advice please

This boat has no engine. It HAD a KF4 Coventry Climax diesel in it, but an option was petrol. Any suggestions what this might have been and what is a good light petrol engine to use . I don't think I need all the 50 hp at 2000rpm of the original. I am new at all this. The boat is 1953. . could I use an MG 'T'series engine ? . or is that just daft ?
