Hi - myself and my wife visited the club yesterday lunch/early afternoon time.
We was pleasantly asked at the bar are we members of a club - which we are and had signed in, we ordered our drinks and lunch.
My wife had the Salmon whilst I went for the traditional Sunday roast.
All arrived in good time and delivered by very courteous staff.
The quality of the food was absolutely delicious in superb surroundings outside looking onto the crouch and the days activities.
we couldn't ask for anything more and can highly recommend this club and hope to go back next week.

I couldn't agree more. We've been there a few times, but not this year. We walk in, go to the bar, smile nicely and state that we're visiting yachtsman, and is it OK to have a pint? The answer has always been a yes, and please sign the book. Nice and friendly place.

A few years ago WMYC changed the sign at it's entrance from "Private - Menbers only" to "Visiting Yachtsmen Welcome"

We were members for a very short time. There was a very bad tempered woman behind the bar who scouled at us every time we went in. She made it clear she didn't want us as part of "her" club.. So we left. A short while we met the Commodore in Colne YC and explained why we had resigned... I heard the woman left shortly thereafter.

Very glad the place has become a bit more friendly.

Absolutely not so. I have only been in Mersea for 17 years and the old sign was there for a good number of years aftet I arrived.

Done in the reign of Brian Boulton so you can work out when.

There were two signs. There had always been two signs: one said 'Private Members only' and another said 'Visiting Yachtsmen Members Welcome'. The idea was to try to stop the 'tourists' who did and still do try to use the club while it hoped that visiting members saw the 'Welcome' sign.
