Some time ago I read about a disabled man (I think he was a diabetic) attempting to row the Pacific. At the time he was experiencing a few problems. Does anybody on this forum have any info. regarding his attempt. I've done a search on Google and can't find any information.

hi, Bladerunner,

I don't know whether we think of the same person.

I am in Peru with 'tehani' right now.
Here i was told about a fellow who started
last year from La Punta, Callao into the Pacific towards Australia.

By his position updates I saw that the stray ends of the Humboldt current
carried him well North of the Equator, N and W of the Galapagos,
where he ended up making a great big loop.

This is an area that I have studied carefully and sailed three times
without an engine
My conclusion is that the fellow did not peruse the pilot charts,
otherwise he would have fought like hell to stay away from there.

I have not been able to find any more updates on him -
but you might put a query on
oceanrowing.com

Also try
juprowa.com/kittel
(my website)
go to the forum
scroll down to
find the question about
'sailing the D&H 22 on the open ocean'
(11.ooo miles)
for details of that current situation NW of the Galapagos

are you into ocean rowing yourself?

Re: It was epilepsy

Thanks very much for the info. That was obviously the chap I was thinking of. Is there a web site that is charting his progress ? I would like to keep up with his progress if at all possible.

Andrew Halsey is his name

and he gave up early in April, being picked up by a fishing boat.
