Rower\'s Nightmare..

..was the name on a 22' Viking I saw at Henley Regatta yesterday. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I was really surprised at the low number of private boats crusing the mile. 10 years ago on the Saturday it was like the M25 on a Friday evening. Yesterday afternoon I saw maybe no more than 20 private boats and that included the nice launches as well as river cruisers.

No sign of the eccentric in his wicker wheelchair boat - is he still around?

Nice firework display though and at least it stayed dry for yesterday.

Re: Rower\'s Nightmare..

No - camera stolen by baggage handlers - but that's another story. My attention, whilst on the river, was also occasionally (well, quite often really) drawn to the top-notch totty all over the place; the pub prices in town for a pint was almost £4!! (but I parked for free in the town-centre and walked back to mon repose) /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Re: Rower\'s Nightmare..

Shame about the camera. Could have done with some pictures of "Top Totty" to help forget about the Sh!te weather!!

Re: Rower\'s Nightmare..

We saw the wicker chair boat man out but only on saturday. The river was not busy at all. Took ours out on Friday evening and only saw one other private boat moving.
Weather not good but beer tent great, better to be wet on the inside!! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

We are planning to be there Thursday through till Sunday but I can see SWMBO already getting twitchy about all this rain.
Hope to see you about.

Remind me never to book a holiday same time that you are out.

You dont want to read todays Daily Express then....

Summer-will-be-a-washout

I must stop reading the newspapers at the garage, they only depress me!

Next year I'm planning to go for the Wimbledon fotrnight as with the new roof on Centre Court it's boound to be dry and sunny so they don't have to use it.

Re: Rower\'s Nightmare..

Working on Straight Across at Freebodys at Hurley Lock on Saturday & Sunday, amazed at lack of boats going through. Could it be the worry the river would be crowded?

Shall we have a sweepstake on when red boards will appear? I'll have Thursday!

Don't even think about Reds or SWMBO will not budge /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
It's not the flow she's worried about, it's the levels!

Re: Rower\'s Nightmare..

You are not anywhere near Abingdon are you?

I would stick to Dorchester where the little river comes out, high bank there !!! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Abingdon the week following, after a stop at Byron's. The bank at Dorchester may be high below the lock but it has been known to flow straight across from above. Nowhere is safe, except the middle of the river!
