Any views on "best" route, or more correctly possible pros and cons of basic routing options:

(1) rhumb line after Cap Finisterre or track further West ?
(2) inside or outside Ushant (but if outside then inside shipping lanes) ?
(3) straight over to Falmouth then turn to E, or more of a NE track (passing the Channel/E Channel TSS with a dog-leg either to E or W) ?

Trying to balance shortest distance with other issues. Obviously weather is a major factor.

Thanks

yep weather and boat definitely a major factor. The worse the weather the less you want to head inshore. There is a reasonable width ITZ outsuide Oessant but inside shipping lanes. In SE, i wd crack out NW in good vis to deep water until you can lay Ouessant. In flatter weather the sort due from now onwards really, rhumb line avoids the pesky ships.

As the best you get is a three day forecast with any accuracy, it will be important to follow the weather developments closely and probably decide which route to take around the corner on the second day when you'll have a far better idea of what will be happening as you close the channel.
Make sure you're monitoring the barometer closely and picking up every weatherfax...then make a decision based on accurate information, deciding prior to leaving I feel can be a mistake as you feel pressured to follow you plans.
Hope you have a good trip....
