I came through Raz de Seine and through Chanel De La Helle with a forumite on a 23m boat, the seas we're fine, but the nav was a challenge with the tide.

Alternatively, watch the weather forecasts, consult tide tables and motor around in glass flat conditions.

Sound advice. Much the same as rounding the Mizen past Fastnet, or the Blaskets. It's only nuts in a storm, can be flat calm on nice days, so just pick a nice day for it. The Atlantic can be flat calm on more than a few days.

Forecast of glassy conditions is no guarantee it will be flat, as I discovered once. The only sure way is to pass at slack tide in gentle winds.

We got there a little ahead of time with less than 10 knots of wind and we really had to hold on as the boat got tossed around by short, sharp 3 metre waves. The wonderful cruising ground of Southern Brittany and the Charente is the reward.
