Looking at Marinetraffic (only shows those with AIS) there could be a goodly number of them that may miss their booked restaurant time tonight unless the iron topsail is hoisted!

A lot of the boats are using a mobile phone App. for position reporting and tracking.

They can be tracked from the main website here..

http://www.roundtheisland.org.uk/web/code/php/main_c.php?map=rir14&ui=rir4&style=std&override=&section=follow&page=gpstracking

Then click on either PC/MAC or Mobile/Tablet version of the tracker.

FWIW - I found the site ran much better using Internet Explorer rather than Firefox web browser.

A huge number of boats have now rounded Bembridge and are doing >5 knots...

The first time I did the race it had to be shortened to Bembridge Ledge as the finish line. Was on a Prout cat, so near the back, we went into Bembridge harbour, put the boat on the sands near the entrance, waded ashore with the anchor and went to pub. I decided then, that I liked sailing!

Hot Stuff, a Beneteau 40.7 ran aground on the Shingles.
The boat operated by Girls for Sail had 12 persons on board.
Immediately after the impact the Navigator went below, lifted the sole boards where she remained watching the keel bolts.
The boat has only just returned from Antigua where she competed against Cheeki Rafiki.
Most crew were taken off. Some went to Cowes whilst others went to Yarmouth.
Race training went well yesterday but things did not go well today starting with being the wrong side of the start line for TRIR.

At 5pm this evening there was a lot of coloured sails out by St Helens Fort. Oh and the wind had gone wrong to the NW.

According to the tracker a couple of the boats appear to be ashore :)

1584 entries. 714 finished. 792 retired. 4 OCS/DSQ. We saw a few boats give up and motor in but I imagine the majority of the retirees simply ran out of time.

It was pretty slow going. We took 11:36 on an Open 60 and aside from one brief spell at 13 knots when the breeze filled in, were generally in the walking pace range and giving away speed to boats more suited to the light conditions.

We made it round to St Cathrines point by about 4. The wind was long gone by then and we were just drifting.

We ended up retiring at 4.30 when we were spinning on our keel in the overfalls. They were not really a problem but I didn't see much prospect of getting enough wind to be able to steer the boat, for some time.

It took us 5 hours to motor home, so I don't there there would have been anyway that we could have finished even if the wind had really picked up, which it seemed to a couple of hours later, but that would have been too late to finish.

This was the first time for us, first time out of the Solent and first time in the race. I had my middle two sons with me and it was a great lads adventure.

I must say a big thanks to everyone who has offered advice on the various projects that we have undertaken to get Paean back into a sea worthy shape. Without the forum, I doubt I would have ever have got so far.

Next step is to get confident at night sailing. Hopefully that won't take me another 4 years to achieve!

Very dull race.

Spent over 2 hours stationary at St Catherines. So went for a swim.

Got round in 13 hours.

We stuck it out until about 1920hrs off Shanklin & retired, owner wanted to get to Cowes for R&R + food, but advised no chance even under engine, by the time we would have got ashore, the IoW would have shut.
Eventually stayed over in Gunwharf & enjoyed the fleshpots there.

I think we saw you. We thought you were nuts but we were also impressed.

We also finished in about 13 hours, sheer bloody mindedness keeping us going. Thank goodness there was some wind on the home straight.
