Morning.

Anyone going out to watch the sailey boats float around the island this weekend??

its actually a pretty spectactular sight seeing all the yachts on the start, especially if there is a breeze and the sun is out!

On the plus side. all the pubs should be quiet until early afternoon as well!!!

if i can arrange domestic matters will try and get out early to watch the start.

Not quite sure of our plans, was thinking of running down to Yarmouth on Friday evening and watching from the beach cafe just along the shore a bit, they open early for breakfast.

Then back to cowes for lunch and along to see them come round the forts.

Fishing off Needles Bridge might be challenging - when those yachts which manage both to miss the Varvassi and get round the corner start steaming down to St Caths, specially if there's enough west for them to fly their kites. Should be quite a sight. Might get down there but do need to get a hair cut first thing.

zippy, we're going over to East Cowes Friday evening and if really keen, may drag our sorry souls out the beds to watch the start at 6am.. in reality, I'm well up for it but I reckon the girls will want to stay snuggled up underneath the quilt

tis an early start but if the weather is good....... i have to get the dogs over to their holiday home mid morning so early works for me!

if i had more time i would be tempted to chase them round the island. always a nice trip around the island and we can do it in an hour and a half so could get up later, chase them around and still be back in cowes for lunch!

it is all assuming i dont get drawn to the pub on friday night which could of course is a possibility!!!

Last time we were at the Folly (a month of so ago) we were sat out the front minding our own business when a group of maybe 10 people came over to a nearby table, removed the reserved tickets and sat down. good thinking i thought. reserve a table. nice plan.

Unfortunatly 20 mins later another group of the same size came asking where the table they had reserved was! the first groups reaction. well we were here first!

Fortunatly andy was diplomatic in finding them alternative seating!

I have sailed in this event several times, and it is a great event. Actually, as the start is quite staggared, the best place for a laugh is down by the Needles. It can get very fraught down there with literally hundreds of boats tacking, and trying to find an advantage. Lots of near misses, and many comings together...........

The bigger faster boats head off south of the island having rounded the Needles, and I have never been aware of these except at Cowes. They start after the snails, and finish many hours in front.

About 10 hours was good for us in a Sunsail (Jeaneaux), but great fun, and quite hard work.

anyone seen the weather for Saturday...

1908 boats tacking up the Solent to the Needles with winds gusting 30mph... really best avoided... worth listening to Ch16 though !

And with the tide flowing to the west from 05:37 could be a touch bumpy! The local riggers & sailmakers will be rubbing their hands with glee. :D

Fine, leave them there. I quite often catch a tide on my own, leaving the family in their berths. They'll get up if it gets rough . . . :D
