Remember the film. I always thought it was won by "Avenger 2" with ford speed sponsered boats second and third. I believe the event was used to launch the Ford Sabre engine range.
If ever you find out how to get a copy I'd like one too. Brings back memories.

Is there anyone here from East Coast Scotland. Can't think of anyone?

I'll do the stretch down to Salcombe, then LJS or Haydn can pick it up.

It was almost beginning to look like the response wasn't good enough to keep this on the boil, but it looks like there are perhaps enough die hards to keep working on it.

It is not necessary for us to have to plan the whole route before it starts, and speed is not of the essence. I'm sure a few will crawl out of the woodwork once it started for real. We may have to press-gang a Berwick or Aberdeen fisherman or two to join the forum !

I could attempt the leg from Grimsby to Boston if my new little Mercruiser seems up to it once commissioned.

Anyway, which way is best, clockwise or anti-clockwise??

Wasn't Happy 1 looking to trailer his boat to try out a new area?

Come on Pete, don't you fancy doing a stint? Gt Yarmouth - Lowestoft should be feasible.

You can go via Breydon Water, as long as I can do Grimsby - Boston via Lincoln!

See extract from ggg's post below on different thread:-

"I am based area FUN (frozen unihabited north). If boat proves reliable I may be interested in a leg of this this round Britain thingy".

We finally have an interest from Northumbria.

Is there still a large Welsh gap to fill?

How about. We set off from four or five different places. Burgee numered 1 to 5 or 4. Else give them different names.

Bogbrush 1
Harry 2
Or what ever. Post them to folks around the country and each set off in different directions. Flags to be left in harbour or marina office for colection by others. Each filling in a list of where it's been and the direction it's going in. Else it might go round in circles. Then we can take bets as to whether Bogbrush is going to beat Harry to the finnish line. Or will harry have a quick spert down the South Coast and zoom past him around Lands end, just to be beaten by Floosy 3 who was a rank outsider. They could race round for years. We could have a web site, picture of England with flaggy thingies marking progress and distance traveled. Might even be excriment fun......./forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Sounds good to me, although 3 may be enough. If we have too many the impact would be diluted and it could all just fade away.

(Your not just trying to sell more flags are you Haydn ?!!! :) )

We still need that Web Master - Any Offers????

I was thinking that one might get stuck some where, like Northumbrland or Padstow for a few months. So the more flags, the more chance that one is moving and gaining ground err sea on the rest. We could even have one each.

Mucky farter Clockwise ?? Ect.

Bit like sending balloons up, to see where they got to.

Only problem I see is. Now if I've bet £100 on Mucky Farter Clockwise. And then I get hold of Bogbrush Anti Clockwise. I might decide that the boat needs to come out for a bit......./forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Martyn,

My humble little boat isn't up for great distances, especially where we are in North wales. Its a 17ft bowrider with 100HP suzuki. Travelling south from Scotland on the west coast would see me from Porthmadog to Barmouth as a max. Not much good to you really :(

However....you want a web master!! :) Take a look at the link below. I built this site for Madoc Yacht Club.

PM me if you need assistance - no probs if you don't.

Dave,

The more participants the merrier. No reason why even a 2 mile stint is not worth the effort. The most fun will be in the handovers anyway!

As for the web site, fine, great!

(Shame we missed the Mid Summers Dance!)

We need to come up with a name, not too long, something like 'mbc-challenge.org.uk' should suffice. I take it you could secure some free web space, can you also sort the name for little outlay, or could we use a freeserve type domain?

It could prove to be a window for sponsorship, so could even generate revenue. Should we play the charity card (RNLI perhaps, we may require their services during the event!).

Well we were thinking of going to Britainy. But then thought it's a long way to Bell isle. So in the end said, what about the Silly Isles. So might go there then drop this flag off at Padstow. That should give it a good start!! Who's taking bets..../forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

As a new member to these forums, I am just hear for my own enjoyment and to find out what people are chatting about. I will however offer advice on what I and our company know about if people ask and I do this more as a service than for any commercial gain. The first thing I would like to do, if this challenge goes ahead is design and host the website. Nothing to fancy and I require no advertising or anything, maybe I could even join in.
