Rough sea video

great images z1ppy..........shame the choir n orchestra did,nt get drowned, because IMHO, the sound of the sea breaking etc makes the shear force n power much more "real"....cheers z1ppy..
 
Was on the QM2, on one of its 1st voyages,going up the east coast of USA when we hit hurricane force winds the skipper abandoned our stop at Newfoundland and headed up the St Lawrence.I went as low as I could with a window and the troughs must have been 30 to 40ft deep.We were going into it and it didnt bother the ship.Thought at the time what a brave lady Helen Mc Arthur was.
 
Was in seas like the first clip on my first trip out at sea when I was a baby sailor at 16 in the royal navy on HMS Veralum, its an amazing experience, wasn’t frightened at all surprisingly, even though in the middle of the night all junior seamen were piped to the galley with life jackets because the after mess deck hatch had been ripped off by the stern sea and had taken on loads of water, the skipper had to come about and pick the right time to do it, all I can remember is we were over at quite an angle for what seamed a long time. Something I will never forget is being on the bridge watching the bow disappear into the water and having to look up at 45' to the top of the wave, then the next on top of the wave with all the spray and foam flying around and you could see for miles the video brought it all back, thanks great to watch.

Having been there and done that, how high do you think the wave is the corvette is in/under/over?
 
I'm afraid that when I watch that first video and see that fishing boat my primary thought (as ever with any rough weather boating) is, and what happens if the engine fails?

Presumably the first thing that happens is it turns beam on with no steering control left, and the second thing is it capsizes.

As ever, boat within the limits of what you can cope with if something breaks, because conditions like that are exactly when they're most likely to.

That looks like a real mean area of wind against tide.
Fascinating to see the boat handling. Makes me think that perhaps a powerful planing/SD boat would have handled it more easily.

At the one minute mark, as the wave breaks on the lighthouse, I guess it's the famous Kereon Lighthouse on the Brittany Coast, near Brest?
