Does anyone know where to obtain spare parts for rotostay furling gear now they have gone out of business. Did anyone take over the spares etc or did they just shut up shop and disappear.

Cant find bearings

I was planning to change the Stainless Bearing in my Rotostay and went to a bearing web site called "Simply Bearings" When I went to measure the bearing it seemed an odd size as it was exactly 3/4" ID but was a shade under 1 1/2" OD Also tried to find it as a metric size which was 19 mm ID 37 mm OD. Just wonder if Rotostay took standard 1 /1/2" bearings and "Bast**dised" them to ensure the sale of spares.

is it not just a standard platic coated forestay/

It's the terminal T end which has fatigued - can you help?

I may be totaly wrong here but on my Rotostay, the top terminal is just part of a standard piece of rigging which any Rigging shop can make up for you. One point is that my Rotostay require the forestay to be plastic coated.

I was wrong, see two posts down, Sorry.

Could you use Part of a Bottle Screw.

I was totaly wrong!!!!!! just had a look at mine and of course there is a Tee at the bottom with a left hand thread.

However I wonder if you could buy a standard rigging screw with a built in Toggle and use the left hand threaded section which include the toggle.

Just had the plastic coated forestay and a foil replaced in my Rotostay. The rigger obtained the T terminal and foil, with no probs, from the riggers mentioned above I believe.

I don't think the design across the whole of the Rotostay range was the same. Mine is an FS4, and when I refurbished it I did a drawing here http://corribee.org/technical/roller-reefing/
My forestay is also plastic coated and was replaced with off-the-shelf parts by Spencers Rigging in Cowes for around £20.
When I spoke to Rotostay just before they closed down they said they still had 'most spares for most models', so hopefully XW Rigging have taken over the stock.

I need to replace all or part of my Rotostay's aluminium foils, one section of which was damaged by a travel-hoist on lifting out last autumn. Initially I contacted Allspars in Plymouth, who were unable to source spares. At the London boat show this January I was introduced to Paul Cochrane of XW Rigging (who is related to the former owners of Rotostay). At first he told me he could get spares but later emailed to say that he could not and all he could offer was one complete Rotostay at almost the same cost as a new Furlex. My assumption is that the former owners have shut down the business and have no interest in ensuring spares support, so I am buying a Furlex and having interesting discussions with the boatyard's insurers!

I believe "Barry" of Barry's Reefing & Rigging Repair Service based in Thornham marine was a former Rotostay employee. If you are in the Solent area he may be a good contact for anything to do with Rotostays

Barry Locke is his name I think.

I believe that there is a sad reason why ongoing support is not available. However, if you contact Mark Flew at Flew Sails (based at Wicormarine, Porchester) I beleive he'll be able to point you towards a source of spares/refurbishment. I only know that as he's been able to offer the same to a friend of mine who's in a similar situation.
