Hi,

I know it may sound like a very basic question but just do not want to take chances. I'm ordering a new roller reefing genoa for my boat which needs to fit in a Rotostay furler. I can't seem to find the model anywhere. Rotostay is written in large font on the top of the drum whilst drum is enclosed in stainless steel.

What i'm really after is giving the sail maker the correct foil groove diameter. Any suggestions ? I mean it looks like a 6mm but then between 5 and 6mm is not that easy to read!!

Thanks

A decent sailmaker should come to your boat to measure it for a new sail. When they come they bring a swatch of luff tapes / bolt ropes of different sizes which they try in your headfoil.
If they won't come and do that and rely on you measuring the boat for them you can cut a piece of the luff tape from an old sail which fits your headfoil. It will of course ruin your old sail but I'm assuming that is why it is being replaced. If you don't want to destroy your old sail you can always measure the bolt rope diameter but it will be on your head if it is wrong. Best option is to use a salmaker who will visit the boat to take measurements

Just noticed your location. My guess is that your sailmaker is not in Malta so will not be able to visit. I would cut a 6 inch strip off the luff of an old genoa and send it.
