Sailed over to Rothesay yesterday in the glorious sunhine and found the pontoons to be in a pretty poor state.Usually stop at Pt Bannatyne when visiting Bute so hadn't been to Rothesay for a while.Looks a bit shabby in general.

The outer harbour ones were in a poor state at the end of last summer so I guess they haven't improved yet.

Think they may have had a hammering during the winter storms. :(

The outer harbour (ie the outer bit of the inner harbour) pontoons have been manky for ages. Mind you, Largs Marina is in a pretty dire state too: holes, patches and suspiciously soft bits all over the place. The plastic pontoons at Port Bannatyne may not be as pretty, but I expect they'll last a lot longer.

I am in the inner harbour at Rothesay and the pontoons are ok.
When I arrived in late December the outer pontoons had been taped off to keep boats away. I assume it was so they could leave them until the weather improves, which was forward looking given the January gales.

Are you still stuck in there Gordon or is the bridge fixed yet?

Don't remember a boat kept there at the time called Io Vado? Always wanted to know what type she was? :encouragement:

There were hardly any boats in there apart from derelicts, small Mobos & fishing launches. I think we were the biggest active one at 25'. There were bigger visitors of course, but few seemed to be kept there. The first task on arrival was to gather up all the fag packets, dog ends, empty beer cans & bottles & chip papers & fill up a couple of bin bags before we could get aboard & unpack our gear.

No change there then!

Still what looked like a coulpe of small derelicts in the inner basin and a lot of discarded rubbish eg cans, plastic bags and paper floating about in both the inner and outer basins.Pontoons slick with green slim and grass growing between the slowly rotting boards. Not a good advert for tourism.Surely it would only take a day or two for a pressure wash and replacement of rotten boards and a zip round the basin in a work boat to lift the floating ****.Not sure who owns it,council? But if its a private operator then they've got some nerve charging near enough the same overnight rate as the other nearby marinas who actually have decent facilities.

Agreed but come on,with just a little thought and work it could be so much better.Or even just keep what you have clean and in good repair

Are you talking about The new pontoons at Rothesay. I was in there end of last year and all were as good as new???

Pretty much as I remember it from the 80's then when I kept my first boat there. But it was cheap then.

Yes back in the mid 1990s when I lived on Bute I used to dry out against the inner wall for the princely sum of £200 a year!
