I was just wondering what had happened to the observations on XCweather for Rosehearty, and it seems that the observation station closed in February. This means there is a big gap in coastal observations between Lossiemouth and Aberdeen, which includes Ratray Head. This is about 80miles of coastline, and a windy bit at that.
Checking the weather at Rosehearty was always an essential check to make before setting off to round Ratray Head.
Is this a cut to far?
Just wonder what others thought.

New Deer, is about 15mile inland and 170m high, so not really representative of the coastal conditions. The camera at Banff is OK, but like the one at Peterhead it's still a long way from Ratray.

I guess it was originally established as part of the offshore bombing range, which I guess has been closed. I haven't seen the target ships for several year now, although they are still shown on the charts.

I don't see why an automatic weather station couldn't have been installed, not very expensive to either buy or run. The NE corner of Scotland tends to have it's own weather patterns which are different from further south, or west along the Moray coast.

I guess I'm just a bit concerned that a well used bit of info' is no longer available, which has to increase the risk.
