Anyone know if it is possible to buy modern hi-tec ropes in simple solid colours like navy blue for a classic sailing yacht - don't really think all the flouro flecks and colours look quite right! Maybe there is a specialist chandler I have not discovered yet that does this?

Don't know about navy, but buff 3-strand polyester is available from most chandlers.
Beware... it is expensive. I bought some 6mm to replace sections of lazyjacks and it worked out at 86p a metre... twice the price of braid on braid with pretty patterns.
That was before I bought the same size tarred Italian hemp off eBay for under a fiver for 350 feet!

Thanks for the advice so far, however, what I'm really after is hi-tec racing ropes, such as Dyneema cored etc. Any further thoughts?

You could give Joe at Ropeloft a ring, he is very helpful and knows a lot about what is available. His number is 0208 4251543 or 0776 1777083.

He is a friend of mine but a good guy never-the-less /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks aitchw & Khyber, sounds like Joe is the man to talk to - will give him a call. With regard to dying modern ropes, would be pleased to know if it is possible, but suspect the nature of the fibres means they may not take dye very well...
