Having fitted an electric windlass (South Pacific CV1000) I had to alter my rope to chain splice as the rope was 20 or 22mm onto 8mm chain.
I did a standard splice using 14mm rope onto the 8mm chain as recommended, but the splice is to big in diameter for the gipsy so jumps off, etc. The July PBO has on page 107 a 'traditional chain splice' that seems a much smaller diameter but I can't follow it. I'm also concerned that it seems to rely upon just one strand doing all the work as one strand is removed and the 3rd tied off by the chain. Is there any links to view this being done for real or is there another way. Also, does anyone have views on this long splice?
