My boat is due to be hauled out soon.
I has a Volvo 130 sail drive leg with an Ambassador rope stripper fitted and the two part anode.
Looking on the Ambassador site it says that the anodes have to be drilled and machined.
Does anyone else have a similarset up and is there an alternative to ordering it from Ambassador.
Do you know what alterations have to be made?
Thank you

I had to machine my anode, this was only a one part though. Are you talking about the anode between the saildrive and prop to allow a prop cutter? It's a very simple machining job. I just faced off an amount (can't remember exact details) and the hole was to drive the rope cutter.

Thank you for the reply,
As we live aboard I only have the on board tools. Would I be able to do it with basic tools.
Thanks

No. It is not as simple as that. There is a recess to machine in the body of the anode and a locating hole which is cut out of each half. Needs a lathe and a fixture to hold the two parts accurately while you do it. Not a DIY job.

Hard to say. I can't remember the amounts I had to remove. Does it say much in the Ambassador instructions about the amount that has to be removed? This will be your biggest headache (I have a lathe).
The drilled hole isn't to drive the cutter as previously said, sorry. It's to stop the "back end" turning.
A local machine shop (if in UK) I would expect to pay around £20. No more.
The other alternative would be to give me as much detail as possible I'd buy the anode, do the work and post it to you. Then you pay me.

The machining is shown in this http://www.ropestripper.com/item.php?item=43 . Part cut away on the top of lip plus 14 mm hole drilled to locate the fixed blade pin. I have 120 leg so buy modified anode from Volspec for about same as Ambassador but without carriage. Should be modifiable by hand from standard anode, certainly not worth £20 extra, Ambassador only charge 20% premium.

I'm sure I had to reduce the thickness of mine, but anyhow it seems the above the above link is your answer, if not just ask and I'll help you out.
The reduction you mention is to the hub flange when first fitting the stripper, I think. But I might be talking total B.....s

You might not be talking B...s. I forgot about the prop mod :D

Just thought... the splines were worn in my hub hence the prop was pushed further back up the shaft, something I never realised until AFTER I reduced the anode. So it's possible I'm talking B...s ... again, as I had to make up a thrust washer to keep the prop in place as the splines weren't doing the job. This being the case the anode wouldn't need reducing. Sorry, again.

Thank you all for your help and offers.
I originally had the 120 leg which was a case of just drilling a hole. I now have the 130 leg, which like th 140 and 150 needs more modification and is something I cannot do.
I will e mail ambassador to see what they say.
It might not be quiet as strait forward as my prop was a new design and they had to modify the rope cutter for the prop. I don't know if this affected the annode.
It wasn't something I concidered and for some reason when looking to order parts for the haul out it crossed my mind. I should imagine a few people have hauled out only to find the standard anode does not fit.
