I was after a 10mm rope clutch... Or rather 5 singles..

Had a look online to see how much they were, and they're about £50 EACH? It just seems a lot to me.. Are there any cheaper alternatives?

Unfortunately, they all need to be 3" apart so I can't even buy a triple for £130!

I accept I'm stingy, but they just seem crazy expensive. :-)

As I recall, clam cleats overwhelmingly won a clutch vs clutch test in one of the magazines. Cheapest, lightest and most effective.
Cam cleats certainly hold well but they are not the easiest things to use, particularly on coachroofs where the clutch is commonly used. As ever you pays your money and clutches win on convenience and flexibility. Perhaps explains why despite the high cost they are so popular.

If it makes you feel any better, I forked out for 4 triples earlier this season...

Yeah biggest underestimation when I bought the boat...

I was planning to change the clam cleats on my boat for two Lewmar triples - I too couldn't believe the price - even more expensive in Oz. cheapest I've found them is West Marine in the US, but of course you have to pay postage on top.

As said cam cleats may do the job. In some cases for lighter lines a winch is no more expensive with a small horn cleat down stream. If you are talking big rope big loads then I guess clutch and big halyard winches are the only way. good luck olewill
