I'm considering sailing up from Blankenburg and entering the Oosterschelde through the above. It looks straightforward but reading between the lines it's not encouraged. Anyone been through. Is it easy, difficult, uncomfortable? Comments please.

Cant see why its not encouraged? been through several times myself, last year was last time (in and out) there are 2 channels as I remember one coming from the sort of north west and one from the south east, both very easy and well marked. the lock itself is the usual vast dutch sea lock with plenty of holding pontoons well protected with the VHF frequency writ large, dead easy, try Colinsplaat if you need a marina, friendly and a nice little town.

We came through last month, absolutely fine, no problems. If you plan to go further up the Oosterschelde than Colijnsplat, the bridge has a clearance of around 13 metres (from memory), but there is an opening section too. Have a good trip, the oosterschelde is a lovely cruising area. We particularly recommend Tholen, at the eastern end - nice facilities, good food and drink, and very friendly people.

I was there two weeks ago. There shouldn't be a problem. Agree about Colijnsplaat. Also visit Zierikzee - pretty market town at the end of a short canal full of trad Dutch barges and fishing boats. Some visitors berths.

Recommended ports
1) Goes (last lock in at 2000h)
2) Zierikzee (if you don't mind rafting up)
3) Yerseke (local charts needed, unless you like getting stuck in the mud)
4) Tholen
5) St-Annaland
6) Stavenisse
7) Colijnsplaat

Avoid at all costs:
Roompot Marina

Roompot lock is fairly straight forward, but do not try to go through in 7+ Westerlies, certainly in wind against tide. If you're apprehensive: let other boats go in firtst and moor up to them.

Oosterschelde bridge (8 Nm from Roompot) has 11m clearance at HW, there are two recommended sections to pass under. They have a digital sign on top, indicating the exact clearance. Otherwise, there is an opening section at the north side of the bridge that opens every hour, on the hour, except at 1800 (lunchbreak? No, actually they don't want to disturb rush hour)
