The micra has no gutters

and I am after a roof rack for it so that I can transport the duck punt

ebay offers hundreds of the blighters with a bewildering array of pads and securing mechanisms

any experiences good or bad to share with me before I splash out?

Which Micra is it? If it's the K11 (the cuddly one, not the angular K10 or the current K12) and three-door, I have an unused roof rack sitting in my garage. I know it carries dinghies, 'cos that's what I bought and used it for.

Yes

I used to carry my 18ft catamaran (disassembled) with its 26ft mast on a roof rack on my mini (old style -1970's)

and the advice is.....

don't

I will never know how I avoided a catastrophy - coming near to it several ttimes

Inflatable roof rack. Force4 £60 but only if its a 4 door car .. no good for 2 doors

Otherwise diesel Volvo V70 estate car with roof bars.

Big enough to carry all your gear, comfy on long journeys, economical to run. Reasonable performance if you get a D5 engine.

Had a Volvo estate for years ( petrol though :( ) use it when needed otherwise use little (diesel) car for running about. Now only tax it when I need to use it.

Use an inflatable on a two door...no problems at all. Brilliant. Cost a lot less tha F 4s price!

I am interested but....

geaography could be a problem if you want it back

Not urgently. Don't have a Micra at the moment.

It's quite hard to find roof racks which fit the 3 door version - most are for the 5 door. The 3 door ones have substantially longer grabby hooky things (am I getting too technical?) for the back bar to allow it to hold onto the rear window frames. Took me ages to find one ...

This much I know. If you place a large sharp cornered item on a Robin Regal van, ( like a fuel tank) and apply boat-calibre lashings, the GRP roof deflects nicely and the aforesaid object digs in and refuses to slide off.

Roof rack for a Micra I dunno but now that it sounds sorted, can I make the joke about... Want a lightbulb for a Lada? Fair swap
Coat, Friday, me gone

Do you have any idea how much restraint it took me not to make the "I want some jollop for my Centaur" joke when Dylan was in well-cutting mode? Do you? And now you just waltz in and do it.

<sobs uncontrollably>

I know, I know, sorry about that.

It is Friday night, the sun has shone nearly all day and there is rumour of more to come. Tis the silly season at last

I think now that Mr D has hidden the sharp saws and implements of destruction , perhaps some nervous sighs of relief for Centaurs United ( as opposed to Centaurs dis-united) might not be entirely inappropriate?

In 10 years some impecunious young fellah is going to stumble upon Dylans cunning plan, an olde wrecke in ye boaty yard...and a Hole New Phoenix shall arise..

Sorry. I've tried, but can't let such a pedantry opportunity pass.:)

It is currently unused, but has previously been used. Just as, for example, Mary Queen of Scots lived in Linlithgow Palace, which is uninhabited or, to be nautical, my main halyard is uncoiled but was coiled last summer.

In case you missed earlier post:

RE HANDIRACK:

The Handirack has been tried and tested the HandiRack on everything from a Rolls Royce to a Nissan Micra and it fits them all. If your car has doors...even Gull Wing doors or roof rails... then the HandiRack can be fitted easily and safely.

The HandiRack will fit just about any car including:
•4-doors / hatchbacks / estates
•2-doors with rear opening quarter- light windows
•2-doors with fixed rear quarter- light windows
•Cars with roof rails
•Cars with sunroofs

even my Smart Roadster Coupe (with the roof panels on!!!)

These inflatable things are OK, but I prefer something a bit more solid to which you can tie the load.

They have strongly attached, multiple heavy duty D rings for exactly that purpose! Have carried everything from canoes, Lasers, surfboards on a variety of cars. Absolutely no problems.
