Romantic Weekend in the Solent

[ QUOTE ]
Deleted User - you miss one important point

" Swmbo has asked me to arrange a Romantic weekend"

Thus she wishes to "reward" DAKA for the nine years he has missed being romantic on Saturaday nights....

I'm guessing you've never actually met a real woman if you believe that she'll ask hubby to organise a romantic weekend to reward him, and that the "romantic weekend" should involve going out on a small boat! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm with the posh hotel in London and a show brigade every time. Lets face it, the boat is the first thing to go in a divorce (apparently) /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

On a related note, what would people say would be the best place to eat, not too far from Mercury on the Hamble. Will be a table for two, as mini-S28 is going into storage for a bit.

(cost not an issue, up to a point!)

Her idea of a romantic weekend and yours may differ wildly after not being on your own for one decade due to the sprogs ,the really depressing news is that after 2 decades your ideas will coincide again and it will much the same as hers after decade one . /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

thanks for everyones replies, all have been given thoughtful consideration, I would have forgotten the chocolates, flowers , and May knows my wine selection can be suspect at times /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I checked with swmbo as soon as I got home and she confirmed not only was she looking forward to spending the weekend together on board but she had already packed /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Perhaps we can manage a show outside the boating season .

A wife who stays at home and lets you go off and do your own thing is 1000% better than a miserable whinger cluttering up the boat.

Quick way to a very expensive divorce

not sure its do-able by boat (!), but we went to Exbury(?) gardens between Calshot and Beaulieu a few weeks back, and it was blooming' amazing. Might be past its best now.
If you get a balmy evening its a nice stroll out along the bird reserve in Lymington, or how about a night moored off Keyhaven?
Salt restaurant in Hythe is very good, but bring several credit cards. If you moor up Beaulieu river, you could always dine atBuclers Hard- but you will need to book.

I prefer to get a berth with the stern towards the river view and bring out the saloon table to use in the cockpit . Stow the back end canvas obviously.

On a nice warm evening its hard to beat, good food well cooked (you get your first choice of grub and know it will be cooked as you like) and nice wine etc. Peace and quiet in wonderful suuroundings and ..........you are on YOUR boat!

Yup, we've done Exbury in the past. Park the boat at Bucklers Hard and take a taxi from there. Possibly follow up with dinner at the Master Builders although, the last time we ate there, admittedly a few years back, it was a bit ordinary. Lovely setting though, of course

A million times better and a zillion times more romantic than any trip to London, any Hotel, any Restaurant meal and any Show.

All IMHO, of course /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The Master Builders is under new management; I ate at the pub a couple of months ago and was unimpressed but they'd only been open for a week at that point. I don't know what the Restaurant is like but they've blurred the boundaries between the two, so I don't hold out massive hopes. Going for another try soon.

There's a landing stage at Gilbury, about 1/2 mile below Bucklers Hard, which I think is on the edge of the Exbury Estate. However, I think its a private jetty, so visitors might not be welcome. On balance, taxi is probably the easiest option /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

Hotel night and show in London for two I reccomend Jersey boys which I and my wife enjoyed with a couple of nights in the Tower hotel overlooking St katherines dock, Good price for combined deal on the net.
Hope this helps?

I never, ever had my wife on my boat as she just wasn't interested. We are divorced now though and new SWMBO loves the idea of boating. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Take her out to show in London or something

Now that, for me, would be instant divorce, except that I'd never have married a man who would even dream of doing such a thing - give me the boat any time.

But then we're all different.
