Looking to expand domestic battery bank to support longer cruising. Currently have 2 x fullriver batteries that are several years old and all the advice is to replace these and then add in additional capacity.

Wondered if there was any preference based on real life experience. The fullriver are a little more expensive it seems but other than that?

Thanks for any contributions.

I don't know about Fullriver but I have 4 x 115Ah Rolls AGM (expensive enough at just under £1,000 for the four) which have been working well on a daily basis for over 4 years and still seem to be going strong.

I also looked at Rolls when replacing some Lifelines. In the end I went with Trojan AGMs which were slightly cheaper. There does not seem to be much in it quality wise, I would suggest you have a look at Trojans before making a decision.

Given there is a big investment coming, it could be a good time to consider a lithium bank. The quality of life improvement is huge.
I’m also upgrading so have looked at Lithium - but £/ah Lithium still doesn’t compete with AGM even assuming drawing down to say 10% on the Lithium battery. So I think I’ll be on the second wave in to lithium - hopefully in fifteen years time!
