I have just found out how to dismantle the top bearing (at the halyard) of my Colnbroke foresail roller. Some of the balls are half eaten away and several are in the gravel in the yard. Now I need 52 replacement balls, six millimetres in diameter and made of what looks like stainless steel. Any ideas of a supplier?

Try your local bearing suppler - BSL (Bearing Services Ltd) or people like Fenner or Wyko. Ask for stainless steel balls - take a sample so it can be measured accurately as it may be ¼" diameter not 6mm diameter.

Thank's Dick, there is a BSL in Paisley that I was going to anyway next week for a drive belt. They are the only place I could get A-belts (as distinct from the more common V-belt) I did not know they did stainless balls.

Hi,

I agree about BSL but I'm sure I remember being told last time I was in the Plymouth branch, that they now had a minimum order value of £25.00!! Does anybody know if this is still the case?

Used to buy all my engine water pump (Johnson) and other seals there at a mere fraction of the Dealer price.

Cheers Jerry

I would be interested how you get on with this... I managed to sort out the bottom (plain) bearing over winter on my Colnbook gear( which had all but siezed up), but will be looking at the top bearing next winter.

I think we have a BSL in Slough which is not far from us here.

All best Nick
