Thanks to all who answered my query re cruising the Scilies - some have mentioned rolling at anchor.
Has anyone used the roll stopper (flopper stopper) featuerd a long time ago in pbo
and in Eric Hiscocks "Cruising Under Sail " ?
If they work I will make one to take with me

This device was a triangular board suspended from a rope bridle fastened to each
corner. The board was suspended over the side from a spinn. pole and was set with the board horizontal in the water. A weight fastened to one corner made the board 'dive'vertically as the suspension rope went slack when the boat rolled towards the board. When the boat rolled the other way and the suspension rope went tight as it tried to drag the board horintal and upwards through the water acting as a brake and thus damping the roll.
That was the theory. Does it work and what are the optimum dimensions.

I spotted a yacht with it's tender hanging from the spinnaker pole, seemed to reduce the rolling pretty well.
