Roger Dongray\'s Alesje

Alesje is featured on the front cover of the Aus magazine Cruising Helmsman this month. As an owner/builder of another Dongray design, I am curious. Can anyone tell me anything about Alesje?

Thanks,

Hi Jeff

Sorry to respond a month later - only just noticed your posting.

I may be wrong but I think the boat you are referring is moored near to Francis Fletcher, at Felixstowe Ferry on the River Deben, Suffolk. Is she a green hulled, tan sailed GRP boat with bowsprit and bermudan sloop rig? She has a small amout of nice carved detail on the topland. She's a great looking boat.

If so, she's a Pilot Cutter 30 built by Cornish Crabbers, now part of The Select Yacht Group (www.selectyachts.co.uk) - a production boat available today for circa £108,250 list.

She is unusual in being bermudan rigged - most are gaffers. The best known in the UK is Grace O'Malley, sailed around England by journalist, author, and broadcaster Libby Purves, her husband Paul Heiney, and their young children. She wrote a great book about the voyage entitled "One Summer's Grace"
