Hi Everyone, just wondered if anyone had experience of both these marinas , and their opinions on them, and why you would choose one over the other!?

Thanks in advance!

They are very different places. Cobbs Quay is a large full service marina and dry stack and Rockley is a small yard with launching facilities pontoons and a few Moorings. So depends what you are looking for If it just to stire and launch then Rockley is OK, but can be tricky as the tide runs hard under the bridge and across the slipway a couple of hours either side of low water. Cobbs Quay is accessible all states of the tide and if you have low airdraft such that you can ignore the bridges has good access to the main harbour.

So go and have a look then decide for yourself which meets your needs best.

I’d say cobbs is better, more onsite facilities & the club house is good for food. Berth holders get a discount on fuel aswell.
ive been rockley a few times to wash down a few caravans and sell a few boats, from what I can remember car parking is limited & in The summer it can be a bit of a nightmare I found getting down to the boat compound due to kids running around everywhere doing the summer RYA courses etc.

I’m not sure if Rockley is accessible at all tides, it is also that bit further to the harbour.

I dont know much about Rockley Park, but as Tranona mentioned, Cobbs only real problem is if your limited with your air draft.
If your under 2.3mtr its not a problem. Above that and you have to go with the bridge lift times or with the tides.
Not normally a problem but can get very busy on a bank holiday weekend in the basin, and the Twin Sails bridge hasn't been what you would call 'reliable' in its lifts.

I'd go along with previous comments.
You do not say what size boat, but note the following:
Last time I checked, 2 years ago, Rockley had no electrics on the pontoons.
Last year Cobbs closed its slipway.
(Both the above may have changed).
We have operated boats with headroom 2.4m and 2.6m from Cobbs and found it was not an issue for us as we could squeeze under most of the time but even an extra 100mm would make it more restrictive.
Difference in distance to Ro Ro port is about a mile, Cobbs being closer.

Its a bayliner 642 cuddy , shouldn't be a problem going under the bridges. Yes Cobbs slipway is closed now which is a shame. Rockley is a bit untidy and yes parking is a problem there. Next to water sports hire and large holiday park Price is 3900 for cobbs, 3200 at rockley (although going up in April).
6 months available at rockley, only 12 at cobbs
Cobbs has a fuel pontoon and other advantages
But some people say last year it was just too busy... (has 1000 boats inc dry stack and pontoons!)

cobbs can be busy but not manic, the larger boats leave at certain time for the bridges (I slip my berth 15 mins before twin sails go up). A boat like you bayliner will be fine all states of the tide, anytime of day getting in & out. It’s not as bad as you think

Everywhere was stupid busy last year and it is interesting to see that Cobbs are offering you a place as they were full by this time (ish) last year.
If you have a trailer, Davis Boatyard next door to Cobbs do 6 months park and launch which may suit you. Or they may offer you a pontoon berth though probably for 12 months only.

yes we looked at Davis, a good price (750 for 20 weeks ). Just didn’t fancy launching it every time.

Thanks , that s good to hear. We had option of f pontoon . I love the idea of a berth but not knowing the boat well , and new to boating too, figured having ability to get it in and out the water with the dry stack could be useful
